Inlays
Of the 47 operating domestic Westinghouse PWRs, 38 have some form of susceptibility to PWSCC in the RPV outlet nozzle safe end region due to the presence of Alloy 182 and/or Alloy 82 weld metal in combination with high residual stresses. The SAFEPLAY weld inlay process, applied through a nozzle access system with cofferdam, shielded working platform and nozzle decontamination is a proven PWSCC mitigation method for RPV outlet nozzles. In situations where MSIPTM or OD weld overlays are difficult to implement or technically not preferred, SAFEPLAY can be an attractive alternative.
